My overall experience of the maternity services at East Surrey is that the clinical staff are for the most part great, but are very much let down by abysmal administration processes. For antenatal clinic appointments I have never waited less than half an hour after my given appointment time, often much longer; I have received notification of appointments days after they were due to take place; I've had to chase and chase for details of some dates and procedures, or been given completely the wrong information. On top of that, while most of the clinical staff are fantastic, I have also come across aggressive midwives, v uncaring consultants (who picked up my notes and read them for the first time while walking into my appointment, thus knowing nothing about me) and a general environment where everyone gives their own individual personal opinion of how my care should progress, which is often completely contradictory to previous advice and very upsetting. I am due to have my baby at East Surrey next week and I am 50/50 about what to expect from them given the very patchy experience I have had so far. I understand that the NHS, and its staff, are under lots of pressure, but some of the problems I've experienced are down to attitude and could easily be helped, and are not the result of poor resourcing.

We are so grateful to the wonderful Paramedic Team and all the Staff in A & E who looked after my husband on the 29 -30 Dec. 2014. Thank you for your professionalism, care and good humour.

Attended A and E. Was triaged immediately. I arrived at 9 a.m. There were only a few other patients in A&E. At 10.30 a.m. I told receptionist that I had an outpatients appointment at 11 and asked whether I could be seen before this. It was not possible and when I returned from outpatients at12 I had lost my place in the queue. It was only by my saying that I had to leave by 1.30 to ensure I could pick up my granddaughter from school thay I was seen by 1p.m. The nurse practitioner was not able to diagnose and treat me but did refer me telephonically to ENT who asked her to prescribe appropriate medication and told me to attend my own GP within one week. After my prescription was fulfilled I was able to leave the hospital by 2.30, having made alternative arrangements for childcare. I was puzzled that I was not able to be seen within two hours as there were few other patients waiting. I was disappointed to,have lost my place in the queue through no,fault of my own.

I was seen twice in A&E with acute Cholecystitis, and was admitted on the second occasion to Brockham Ward. The staff were all very helpful and sympathetic, which made my stay bearable. The ward was clean and well managed. I do however have a grievance. I was discharged after 4 days - the doctors came around and told me I could go home. It was fairly early in the morning, and almost as soon as the doctors left I was told that I would be taken down to the discharge lounge. After a few minutes a porter arrived and I was whisked off - without being able to have a shower or brush my teeth. I arrived at the discharge lounge at about 10am and was given a seat and some water. My friend came to take me home at 1pm and I finally left at 3.30pm. I had to wait for five and a half hours for medication. The pharmacist came to see me after four hours and it was very apparent that she was only just dealing with my prescription - it would appear that she was on her own. ( I should add that this happened on a weekday and not the weekend) I have to say that I was at my wits end - I just wanted to get home and freshen up - not only that but my friend had an unnecessarily long wait to take me home. As a retired NHS professional I do wonder whether the long wait for drugs is acceptable. Surely if a discharge is expected TTO's can be ordered the night before and kept on the ward - that's what used to happen when I was a ward sister. There has to be a better way of dispensing discharge medicines, and shortening the stay in the lounge. I was not the only patient who suffered such a long wait - there were quite a few of us. This is not acceptable.

I have had two stays this year, from accident and emergency to Chalwood ward my care was excellent. The only bad thing was the food. But that isn't the nurses or drs fault is it
